Subscribers to Microsoft’s Office 365 service — which includes Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, OneNote and Excel — are about to get some serious limit increases with regards to both the number of devices they can install the software on, and the number of users allowed to access the account. In a, the company writes that beginning October 2, Office 365 Home will see their device limits completely removed.
That means instead of being limited to installing the software on a total of 10 devices, it’s now an unlimited number of devices for both subscriber tiers. Apps and services included with Microsoft Office 365 The upgrade to unlimited devices applies to both Office 365 Home and Personal subscribers, the latter of which was previously limited to one PC or Mac and one tablet. Microsoft is also increasing the number of licenses it provides to Office 365 subscribers. Office 365 Home, which requires a $99.99 per year fee, previously restricted users to a total of 5 unique users. Beginning October 2 Microsoft is adding an additional license. That makes the value proposition even more attractive considering each license also includes 1TB of Microsoft’s OneDrive cloud storage.
Additionally, each license will be able to sign into 5 devices simultaneously. Yep, that means technically 30 devices at the same time for an Office 365 Home package. All of these changes will not effect the current price structure, and the upgrade will be implemented automatically.
Another notable change to Office 365? You’ll finally be able to manage your subscription on the Microsoft Account portal instead of having to sign into Office.com. For Windows and Mac users the Office 365 service was already a compelling deal, especially the Home tier.

Microsoft released a few versions of Office 2010, so the number of computers on which you can install the software varies. If you have the Office Home and Business 2010 edition or the Office Professional 2010 suite, you are allowed to install a copy on one PC and a second copy on a portable device “such as a laptop.” If you have the more consumer-oriented Microsoft Office Home and Student 2010 edition of the suite (the version that includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote — but not the Outlook mail program), you have more flexibility. This version of the software can be installed on up to three computers designated for noncommercial use in a single household. To install the program on the new machine, you will need the Office 2010 — that lengthy 25-character string of letters and numbers usually affixed to the DVD case — to activate the software.
